Main purpose of job
The primary purpose of the Global Data Services Lead role is to ensure the efficient, transparent, and cost-effective operation of all global data services, including the management of the Power BI Service Platform, AWS and Snowflake environments, and related governance and reporting processes. This role is accountable for maintaining oversight of cloud usage and costs, managing platform administration and licensing, and ensuring consistency in how local data teams operate and interact with Global Data Operations. The Global Data Services Lead acts as the bridge between IT, data, and business functions, ensuring that all data services run efficiently, securely, and in alignment with the Global Data Strategy.
Key accountabilities:
Manage and Administer Global Data Platforms: Oversee the day-to-day operation and administration of the Power BI Service, AWS, and Snowflake environments to ensure availability, security, and performance meet agreed service levels.
Monitor and Report Cloud Costs and Utilisation: Track, analyse, and report on AWS and Snowflake usage and spend to support financial transparency, cost optimisation, and informed decision-making across the organisation.
Develop and Maintain a Data Service Chargeback Framework: Design and implement a future cost allocation model to ensure fair and transparent recovery of data platform and service costs across functions and markets, aligning with the Global IT financial model.
Standardise Local Ways of Working Across Data Teams: Work with local MI and BI teams to understand their current operating practices, identify inconsistencies, and help establish a uniform, standardised model for collaboration under Global Data Operations.
Lead Documentation and Knowledge Management: Own and maintain the Global Data Operations Confluence space, ensuring all documentation, process guides, and service standards are complete, current, and easily accessible to all teams.
Support Strategic Reporting and Visibility: Prepare and coordinate weekly and monthly operational reporting packs for the Head of Data Operations, executive stakeholders, and local boards, providing clear insights into service performance, costs, and progress on key initiatives.
Act as the Bridge Between IT and Data Operations: Serve as the primary link between Global IT, project teams, and the data organisation to ensure alignment on infrastructure, access management, platform configurations, and service delivery.
Support Key Global Data Projects and Initiatives: Assist in the coordination and tracking of high-profile data programmes and deliverables, providing structure, visibility, and operational control across the Data Operations portfolio.
Knowledge, skills, and experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Data Management, or a related discipline.
Certifications or proven experience in AWS, Snowflake, or Power BI Service administration desirable.
Experience working in a global or multi-market environment preferred.
Cloud Platforms and Cost Management: Strong understanding of AWS and Snowflake service structures, billing, and usage metrics.
BI Service Administration: Knowledge of Power BI tenant setup, licensing, permissions, and workspace governance.
Data Operations and Governance: Familiarity with data management best practices, including documentation standards, platform governance, and process alignment across multiple teams.
Experience with cloud cost monitoring and reporting tools (e.g. AWS Cost Explorer, Snowflake usage dashboards).
Competent in Power BI administration, including licence assignment, access management, and workspace configuration.
Strong organisational and communication skills, capable of coordinating across multiple technical and business teams.
Ability to manage competing priorities in a global, fast-paced environment with limited direct supervision.
Demonstrated ability to analyse and report on platform usage and cost data.
Experience in process improvement, documentation management, and aligning local operating models to a central framework.
Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage IT, data, and business leaders effectively.
